Stupid Video of the Week

Shop at the Museum of Unfine Art!!!
Independent stores offer unconventional gift ideas
by Ryan Nyburg
Senior Pulse Reporter/Oregon Emerald
December 04, 2003:
Shawn Mediaclast -- owner and operator of the Museum of Unfine Art and Record Store, located at 537 Willamette St. -- is not available for magic but does offer a wide range of gift possibilities. One of these is a thermin, one of the earliest electronic instruments widely known for its use in 1950s science fiction film soundtracks. Mediaclast also suggests his humorous gift certificates and Tiny Tim's "Christmas Album" as possibilities.
The downtown Eugene store is part avant garde gallery and part eclectic record store. The store contains more than 100 ties, a child's tiger suit, Manic Panic hair dye, dusty records and cigarettes. Buttons that read "Old Fart" and "Reporters Tell Stories" lay behind the counter. An old telephone booth functions as a changing room to try on polka-dot shirts and puffy vests. The walls are galleries, filled with ever-changing pieces of art.
The subtitle of Mediaclast's business card reads, "Musique, Art & Fashion Concrete."

Tomorrow's Radio Show
On this sunday's Hangover (11/28/04) I will be starting my 5 part series sampling "Respect-A Century of Women in Music". I will only be covering about a half hour each show.
Check out the review of this great CD box from Amazon.com:
"One of the most ambitious box sets yet, the five-CD Respect distills 89 years of recorded women's voices. Disparate styles and attitudes meet and mix with each other in the crosstalk, with personal, social, and musical values melding into an astounding whole. Attentive fans of pop music will probably find most of their major discoveries on the first two discs; for instance, Anna Chandler's 1916 "She's Good Enough to Be Your Baby's Mother and She's Good Enough to Vote with You" may very well find the listener with her or his mouth hanging open. Those unfamiliar with Loretta Lynn's "The Pill," X-Ray Spex's "Identity," or Queen Latifah and Monie Love's "Ladies First" are also likely to be shocked into big grins and furiously nodding heads. The connections to be made here are endless: spinning these largely chronologically sequenced discs in order is mind- and ear-expanding enough, but it's also fun to play, for example, Kitty Wells's "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" and Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man" back to back. "We Belong Together," Rickie Lee Jones insists near the end of disc four, and it's hard not to imagine that she's singing to every other woman on Respect. "--Rickey Wright

Shop at the Small Stores
What is it about downtown Eugene? Everybody deserts the downtown and heads forall of the corporate stores at the mall. Why don't they follow Corvallis' lead and support all of the indie businesses downtown? For a community that thinks it is so progressive people should turn around and look at themselves and their buying habits.

Weird Video of the Week
Today I watched a DVD that my good friend Nervo sent me--"Jandek on Corwood". It is the story of the reclusive mysterious musician from Texas who has put out about 39 albums since 1978 and still no-one knows who he is. He scares me. Check out the trailer:

Stupid Video of the Week
Thanx to my friend Armin for this one:
This is from a perverted British Childrens show . Wait for it to load and then "press" the button that appears on the TV screen.
For those of you who don't have kids or are far too young to remember
the splendid children's TV programme "Rainbow", this may be a little
lost on you...... but it must have been a great episode to watch!
Almost too ridiculous to believe... These are taken from original
Rainbow scripts and there's no way these could have been done by
accident. Innuendo all the way....
The sketch opens with Zippy peeling a banana...
Zippy: "One skin, two skin, three skin, four....

Become A Minister!
You may wonder why I call myself "Reverend" Marc Time . It is because I am a minister for the Universal Life Church! You too can become one--here's how:
"We believe that everyone is already a member of the church and is just not aware of it as yet. The Universal Life Church will ordain anyone who asks, without question of faith, for life, without a fee. Just select "Be Ordained" to complete the process right here on our website. The church has two tenets: the absolute right of freedom of religion and to do that, which is right. Anything else within the law is allowed.
The Universal Life Church will not stand between you and your God and recognizes that each person must choose his or her own path. Each person in the ULC is free to follow any path as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others."

Stupid Video of the Week
There's this swedish music video that I got from some other music blog site a while ago and I've really been obsessing on it. It's by this nerdy 80's guy with a little mustache named Gunther and it is the funniest retro-disco throwback video I've seen in a long time. It's called "My Ding Ding Dong" or "You Touch My Tra La La".
Is this guy serious?? Decide for yourself:
http://wm.warnermusic.com/Sweden/Svenskt/gunther_dingdongsong_hi.wmv
Great ending too.

Tomorrow's Radio Show
As you know every week on Sunday Morning I host a radio show on KWVA-FM 88.1 the U of O station--you can listen with realplayer at
http://www.kwvaradio.org
The last few weeks I have covered a lot of politics and talk-but tomorrow I am going back to chillin with 2 hours of new and old lounge and bossa nova. It might sound good after all of the election hubbub.
And next Friday at 10 AM I will be hosting Craig Leve's "Snap, Crackle and Pop!". I will be playing female only pop artists from the 60's on up.
